The Coach

The Coach

In this Sunday Night story, we explore the impact of Chicago’s gun violence epidemic by profiling the Orr Academy High School boys basketball team on the city’s west side. For one month in early 2017, we followed the team as they competed for the state title– a distinction the school had never earned– and learned about the experience of living in one of America’s deadliest neighborhoods.

I pitched this story after reading a local news report about the team and their coach Lou Adams. As a producer, I shot elements for the story, coordinated the booking effort, field produced all of the shoots, co-wrote the script, edited the rough cut and managed the final edit.
